EU research and innovation will address social exclusion, discriminations and various forms of inequalities. It will explore new forms of innovation and strengthen the evidence base for the Innovation Union, the European Research Area and other relevant EU policies. It will promote coherent and effective cooperation with third countries. Finally, it will address the issues of memories, identities, tolerance and cultural heritage.
Collaborative projects in pre-defined topics with at least three partners from three different countries will be funded.
The European Commission (EC) declared in the European Parliament on 26 February that Switzerland must be considered an industrialised third country in Horizon 2020 following the adoption of the Swiss popular vote on the limitation of mass immigration on 9 February 2014.
Swiss project partners can take part in an international consortium without requesting an EU grant. The Swiss State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) will finance the swiss participants.
